The Right People Will Show Up

I’m knee-deep (what does this even mean?!) in finalizing the details for the Holy Sip Jamaica dinner in two weeks. While excited, there’s been quite a bit to do. As I found myself getting ready to stress about possible cancellations and last-minute housing arrangements, my subconscious mind calmly reminded me that, “the right things will happen and the right people will show up.”

I learned this at an open space session at least 15 years ago. I can’t remember what the session was about, where it was, who was there, why I was there, what open space is…pretty much, I remember nothing but the paraphrased mantra that I’ve come to repeat whenever I’m planning an event. I looked up the full saying today so that I could get it right for this post and it’s even better than what I remembered.

1. Whoever comes are the right people.
2. Wherever it happens is the right place.
3. Whatever happens is the only thing that could have.
4. Whenever it starts is the right time.

What a thing of beauty! This is exactly the energy that’s needed to plan anything. It immediately gets rid of the stress. As a wise Jamaican named Bob Marley once sang, “Don’t worry, ‘bout a thing. Every little thing is gonna be alright.”
